We never imagined we would be announcing our second Alternative Hair Virtual Show for 2021, but in these strange times we have decided this is the best decision we can make in order to reach the global audience that has so loyally supported us over the years. What we learnt from last year’s first virtual show has enabled us to plan an exciting programme over 2 days on the weekend of the 9th & 10th October.

Despite all the challenges we faced in 2020, the numbers of hairdressers from across the Globe entering the Alternative Hair International Visionary Awards exceeded all previous years and we were thrilled to see such amazing work. When I came up with the idea of a photographic award giving opportunity to unknown creative hairdressers, I never imagined the Visionary Awards would grow to be so popular. Sadly, once again this year we’ll be unable to put on our usual live show, but using the powers of the internet, we’ll ensure that all our finalists get the opportunity to show their fantastic work to our international audience.

LONDON (UK) – SILAS TSANG, an hairdresser from Ontario has won the award for INTERNATIONAL COLLECTION of THE YEAR 2020 at HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards by HJ.

SILAS TSANG, from BLUSHES hair salon in Ottowa, fought off strong competition and stood out from a star-studded line up of the best-known stylists to gain the top spot in this fiercely contended category.

Judged twice by a panel of hairdressing legends and British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame members, Silas claimed the status of best international collection after showcasing phenomenal original hair work which demonstrated not only technical skill, but creative vision and comprehension of current trends.

HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards celebrate the people producing the very best hairdressing work across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, plus one international award. For the first time in its 36 year history, the ‘Oscars’ of the hair world could not be held in person at the Grosvenor House, A JW Marriott Hotel, and instead went live and virtual on Monday 30th November – giving an opportunity to celebrate the success and talent within the industry and share the prestige and excitement of the event to an even wider audience.

A huge congratulations to Silas. This win is a phenomenal achievement and career highlight, particularly after the difficulties faced by the industry this year. Silas’ hair work demonstrated unrivalled vision, skill and creativity, gaining him recognition as one of the best in the business.
This year’s British Hairdressing Awards will certainly go down in history as one of the most challenging but rewarding events we’ve ever organised. The fighting spirit of the hair community shone through, despite not being together in person, and the reception from our virtual viewers was truly uplifting. I’m so pleased we had this opportunity to share the achievements of these truly outstanding stylists with all their supporters near and far.

RESET 2020 ❤️ by X-PRESION : the greatest show in the history of HAIRDRESSING (ES)

X-presion has achieved the unimaginable, bringing together the entire industry, brands, hairdressers, and the media at an event with a sensory and transformative spectacle without equal.

Madrid – Last October 18 and for an hour, X-presion did not allow us to think of anything other than enjoying with all our senses an event that made everyone vibrate with its magic. The music, the messages of Suco and the work of X-presion merged to recreate a dream of one hour that allowed them to enter the homes of some of the sharpest hairdressers in the world, reaching their objective; to transform from creativity and emotion. RESET was an invitation to actively join the change through the power of music, active meditation, and hairdressing. In short, 60 minutes of pure enjoyment.

All these elements made more than 20.000 hairdressers in 57 countries connect as the same soul, share the same feeling, and come together under the same passion, generating contagious positive energy.

With RESET, it has been proven that new and spectacular events via streaming are possible.

Illusion, passion, emotion, and effort are the values with which they show that everything is possible. When they began their career, nobody believed it was possible, but 15 years have already passed that have shown the success of a project for which they continue to fight. And once again, X-presion appealed to hope, an attitude towards life and a message of positivity, now more necessary than ever.

15 years and 15 models on stage, where they presented some of their most iconic techniques and collections such as NU: BI, Arara, Disruptive, Bauhaus, Tartán, #Xpresionpixel #Xpresionthread, or the most recent Trompe L’oeil or DNA braids.

More than 60 people contributed to create, in their own words, one of his greatest works of art.

THE ALTERNATIVE HAIR SHOW 2020 goes viral ❤️ A virtual SUCCESS !

The first virtual Alternative Hair Show aired as planned across social media on Sunday 11^th October with huge success. To date it has reached over 250,000 views and the numbers are still rising. In fact, only a few minutes into the show the Alternative Hair website crashed as 1000s of people tried to view the show

After months in planning and a last-minute hitch when long-term producer, John Walford, had to go into self-isolation, the 38^th Alternative Hair Show went live at 4pm UK time, watched by an ever-increasing Global audience and presented by Alternative Hair Founder, Tony Rizzo, Alternative Hair Global President, Anthony Mascolo and Alternative Hair PR, Linda Evans.

International artistic teams, most of whom had previously appeared at the live shows in London, created presentations in their own countries with their personal interpretation of the theme: IMAGINE. From fields and studios, to salons and historical buildings including the magnificent Duomo in Florence, the backdrops themselves were inspiring and the work showed an incredible attention to detail and the vision to create something amazing within the close confines of today’s world.

INTERNATIONAL VISIONARY AWARDS

The International Visionary Award finals have become an increasingly important part of the event and this year the finalists each created their look and filmed their model as part of their entry. Judged by an international panel of top hairdressers the winners were announced live over Zoom. It was great to see the response on the faces of this year’s winners:

Cut & Colour – Xavier Arcarons, Spain
Men’s – Carles Sanchez Congost, Spain
Avantgarde – Eugene Low Wai Ket, Malaysia

Leading on from the Awards was the exciting announcement of the NEW VISIONARIES a new show element to be launched in 2021. To illustrate the concept Rudi Rizzo, Tony’s youngest son, showed a short presentation for Mr Rizzo.

CHARITY FUND-RAISING

Of course, Alternative Hair is about creativity, inspiration and entertainment but at its heart is fund-raising for Fighting Leukaemia, Blood Cancer UK and World Child Cancer. The audience was reminded throughout the Show that even the smallest donation can change lives with films and appeals emphasising the ultimate goal of Alternative Hair – to find a cure to guarantee every person suffering from blood cancer survives.
